Winter Hike at Little Wolf

Timm March 28th, 2010

We went for a hike on this sunny but chilly early March day at Little Wolf Nature Preserve.

The beavers have left our pond once again.  Theresa is trying to move a big tree that fell over the entrance to the beaver den.

The water was so clear today that we could plainly see the boat that sunk to the bottom of Jimmy Pond years ago.  Snow-covered Little Wolf Peak is in the background.

This new waterfall has retreated over 20 feet this winter and has grown to over 10 feet tall.

Deep blue sky provides a pretty backdrop for a forest of dormant Sycamore trees.

Shadow surveys the land.

This old hunting tower is still standing, despite its rotting wooden feet.

Theresa stands proudly in front of a patch of 200 evergreen trees she planted five years ago.  They’ve grown from tiny seedlings to study Lodgepoles nearly 20 feet tall!
